    ARA BOARD MEMBERS ARE NEEDED

Published at 6:08 pm on May 22

Arlington Rowing Association is a non-profit corporation. It’s Board of Directors is made up of 11 volunteers (Arlington Crew parents). Board members serve for a term of one year, July 1 through June 30.

This coming year, the Association is in great need of new Board members. Only 5 members of the Board currently plan to seek re-election.

Arlington Crew parents have volunteered their time in the past so that your child has the opportunity to be a part of this wonderful sport with their schoolmates. There are only 8 Board meetings required per year. Every position can be learned and no prior knowledge of the sport of crew is necessary. All that is truly needed is the desire to see this organization continue.

Voting will take place at the last Parent Meeting of the season (Date TBD – will be held on the same day/time as Boathouse clean-up). Please consider throwing your hat into the ring. Contact any current Board member or email info@arlingtoncrew.org

Important Updates and Info for the NYSSRA Regatta

Published at 12:40 pm on May 07

From Chris Chase at Saratoga :

The weather looks pretty harsh Friday night until 6am Saturday morning. Thundershowers possible/probably. The rest of the day looks windy and rainy. Basically, the usual stuff. (check the weather on Saturday or Sunday.

Please make sure your kids are prepared for this weather. It says the temps will drop from the mid 70’s to the mid 50’s by Sunday. A west wind is fairly shielded from the course, a SouthWest wind is a direct head wind.

The parking lot will be muddy. There is another lot before you get to the Golf Course (on the right) if you want to park there and be shuttled. Your choice. Less mud and chance getting stuck in it.

SemiFinal sheets will be printed after the Time Trials and available at the Coaches Tent by the registration tent. By day’s end, Sunday’s race sheets will also be available. We will be updating the NYS Champs page on the Saratoga Crew website with the results periodically, AND, I believe that the local sports writer (Stan Hudy) will be covering the racing live on his blog at www.saratogian.com/blogs/. You are welcome and encouraged to have family and friends interact there. He is in the Timing Tent and knows results before I even do.

MOST IMPORTANTLY !!!! The Time Trials will be run first! All boats will begin by getting that “time of record”. Please let your athletes know how important it is to race it hard. If the Frosh/Novice Events are not run on Saurday, the TT times will dictate the medals. If Semi’s are not run, the TT times will populate Sunday’s Finals. These times are very important. We have become a HUGE regatta and the only way to keep it to 2 days was to use this system. It isn’t pretty, but it’s what we got.

No matter what happens this weekend, there is an expectation that coaches and athletes will handle themselves with class. We had some moments last year that stretched this thin. It will not happen again. If the HEAD COACH needs to address something, so be it. He/She is welcome to without an angry mob. Judge Referees will not be verbally attacked. Larry Muri (Chaminade) is the go-between for the NYSSRA and any issue of fairness/competition/etc. Please spend a moment with him should any issues arise.

Lastly, Have fun….and bring yer boots. If you can’t have fun…..still bring the boots.

    Chris
